January 2020 PTO Meeting Recap

Thank you so much to everyone who came to Tuesday night’s PTO meeting with Superintendent David Fleishman and the School Committee members — we had a great turnout and were able to discuss several topics of importance to our community.  Most notably, there were several questions about the new building and about equity.

Click here for the full January 2020 PTO meeting minutes.

For more information about the Equity Committee and the current policy, please see the School Committee Equity page and FAQs.

At the School Committee homepage, you can also sign up for their email updates by filling out the form at the bottom of the page.  The updates include School Committee meeting minutes and any news about the progress of building projects, high school start times, etc.

The new Lincoln-Eliot building at 150 Jackson Rd. is currently expected to be ready in three and a half years, and the Design Review Committee has room for another LE parent on it.  If you are interested or want to find out more, please reach out to John Mulligan or Principal Morrissey!

As always, if you have any questions or thoughts, please reach out to us at secretary@lepto.org or president@lepto.org!  Thank you again to everyone for coming and supporting our school (and apologies for anyone we missed on the attendance list!)!  We hope to see everyone at our next PTO meeting on Tuesday, March 10th!

Save the Date: Movie Night is February 7th!

Lincoln-Eliot Movie Night will be on Friday, February 7th at 6pm — we hope everyone can join us in the school gym for another fun night at the movies with your friends!

Everyone is welcome to VOTE for which movie will be shown — this year’s choices are Toy Story 4, The Lion King (2019), How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, and Abominable!

Vote, pre-order whole pizzas, and/or volunteer by visiting our Movie Night survey here!

We look forward to seeing you all there — please remember this is not a drop-off activity, and parental supervision is required.  $5 includes admission and popcorn; pizza, baked goods, and water will also be for sale in the cafeteria.  Pajamas welcome!

PTO Meeting This Tuesday, Jan. 7th, with David Fleishman and School Committee

At our PTO meeting this Tuesday, January 7th, we will be joined by Superintendent David Fleishman and School Committee members Ruth Goldman (Chair) and Margaret Albright.

The Superintendent and School Committee members visit each school throughout the year to answer questions and provide information to each school community.  This is a great opportunity to ask questions specific to our Lincoln-Eliot community and learn more about district-wide initiatives.  If you would like a certain topic to be addressed and are unable to attend the meeting, please forward your questions to president@lepto.org and we will pass your questions along at the meeting.

For a preview of the rest of our agenda, you can view our slideshow presentation here.

The PTO meeting will take place from 6:30-7:30pm in the library.  We are hoping as many families can attend as possible.  As always, child care will be provided in the gym for the duration of the meeting.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Winter Concert Thursday, Jan. 9th

This coming Thursday, January 9th, our 4th and 5th graders will be performing their Winter Concert in the L-E gym at 7pm!  Come see our 4th grade strings, 4th grade band, string ensemble, 5th grade band, and the 4th and 5th grade chorus perform!  Everyone is invited to attend and support our young musicians.

The music groups will also be performing for the younger grades during the school day on Thursday, so if you can’t make it in the evening, ask your kids about the concert and what music they heard!

Thank You for a Wonderful Book Fair!

The Book Fair committee thanks everyone at Lincoln-Eliot for joining us this week to celebrate the magic of books and reading!  We had a joyful and successful book fair, with kids being incredibly adorable about books all week long, and we couldn’t have done it without you.  Whether you were browsing the fair, buying books for teachers for their classroom library wish lists, showing up in costume as a book character, volunteering, or reading and talking about books with your kids, we really appreciate all of you!

5th Grade CAS Program: World of Owls

This coming Thursday, December 19th, our Creative Arts and Sciences Committee is bringing in an exciting enrichment program for our 5th graders.  Wingmasters: World of Owls shows that owls are highly specialized birds of prey, very different from other raptors, and superbly equipped nocturnal hunters.  This presentation shows how owls use their specialized adaptations of sight, hearing, and flight to survive and thrive.  A wealth of fact and folklore is presented separating myths from reality.  Five live owls of different species provide the focus for this presentation.

Thank you to our CAS team for bringing in programs like these all year long, and thank you for your support that makes it all possible!

The Lincoln-Eliot Book Fair Is Here!

It’s Book Fair Week at Lincoln-Eliot, which means we’ll be celebrating books and reading all week long!

Everyone is welcome to stop by to shop the book fair Monday-Thursday before and after school, starting at 8am and going until 4pm (2:30pm on Tuesday).

Tuesday morning, all parents and guardians are invited to come to the library for a Brrreakfast with Books coffee morning between 8-10am.  This is your chance to browse the fair without your children (and maybe buy some holiday presents!).

Wednesday is Book Character Day, where kids (and our amazing teachers) can come to school in costume as a favorite book character!  Click here for some ideas, or stop by the library on Tuesday to pick up a costume item to wear on Wednesday.  We’ll also have costume crafts in the library after school on Tuesday, for anyone who’d like to come cut out and color their own unicorn horns, Wimpy Kid faces, and more!

And Thursday is our Books and Cookies Pajama Party!  Join us from 5-8pm — in pajamas, if you’d like to! — for free cocoa and cookies, fun crafts, book scavenger hunts, and browsing the fair!  We’ll have wish lists from the teachers for their classroom libraries, and there will be pizza for sale in the cafeteria, plus a donation bin for Cradles to Crayons.  We hope to see you there!

But if you can’t make it to the fair this year, there’s also an online book fair shopping option, which you can get to through our Book Fair Homepage.  There you’ll find an extended selection of over 6,000 books and free shipping on (books-only) orders over $25, and purchases made through the Lincoln-Eliot page between Dec. 4-17 earn 25% in rewards for the school.  Plus, this year, orders ship directly to your home!  (So please feel free to share the site with faraway friends and family!)

Thank you for celebrating books with us and supporting our school at the same time!

See you at the fair!
