Please see this update sent by our teachers:
The School Committee and Newton Teachers Association have been negotiating a contract for nearly a year, with the first meeting taking place place last October 2022. We are now working without a contract, since its expiration on August 31, 2023. Despite an expired contract, NPS educators are hard at work each day teaching, supporting, and caring for all our students.
We need help from the community to secure the learning and working conditions that we need for our students and our educators through a fair contract. If interested, here are some ways you can help:
– Ask your educators about contract negotiations. We’d love for you to hear the educator perspective!
– Tune into updated that share a parent and educator perspective by signing up to receive emails from the Parent-Educator Collaborative (https://www.pecnewton.com)
– Join us at our rally at the School Committee Meeting on Monday, October 23
– Contact our School Committee representative, Rajeev Parlikar, at parlikarr@newton.k12.ma.us tu support increased funding for Newton Public Schools
– Contact Mayor Fuller (fuller@newtonma.gov) to request increased funding for Newton Public Schools
– Host a Lawn Sign in support of Newton’s educators.
We are grateful for your interest in negotiations! Thank you!
