New Online Directory — Sign Up Now!

This year, our online directory system has been upgraded from MySchoolAnywhere to Membership Toolkit — a technology for directories, email, and volunteer signups that will hopefully be even easier to use!  If you were in our directory before, your information will still be there, but everyone will need to sign in to Membership Toolkit and create a new account to have access to the directory.  This is also a perfect way to make sure you’re in the directory and check that your information is up to date!

Register online by going to lepto.membershiptoolkit.com and following the prompts.  If you were signed up with MySchoolAnywhere, please use the same email address, so your new account can link to your existing information.

If you are new to the directory, follow the directions to input your family information and choose what you’d like to be visible.  The process takes less than 3 minutes, and then you’ll be in the directory through high school!  Once you’ve signed up, an admin will approve your access to the directory, which may take a day or two (please email secretary@lepto.org if you have any trouble or need access quickly!).

And while you’re there, check out our volunteer opportunities for the year!

You can also download the free app by searching for Membership Toolkit in the iTunes App Store or Google Play.  After you register on the website, use the same username and password you chose in the app to access the directory, manage your family information, sign up for volunteer activities, and more— all from your cell phone.

Questions?  Contact us anytime at secretary@lepto.org!

Summer Reminders from the School Nurse

Medication Pick-up: Parents of students who have medication stored in the health room should pick it up by the last day of school, June 18. All medication (pills, epi-pens, inhalers, etc.) not picked up will be discarded. Please plan ahead to pick medication up so it is not wasted! Medication may not be carried home by the student — it must be picked up by an adult. School nurses will not be available after June 18 to return medication to families.

Medication Order Reminder: All medication orders expire at the end of the school year. If you are visiting your child’s health care provider during the summer, consider requesting a new medication order for your child. All medication, prescription or over-the-counter, requires an order. The Medication Permission Form and the Medication Policy are both available online at www.newtonma.gov/schoolhealth

West Nile Virus and Lyme Disease Prevention: Mosquito and tick-borne diseases like West Nile Virus and Lyme disease occur in Newton residents. Take steps to avoid getting sick!

  • Mosquito repellant not only works for mosquitoes, but helps repel ticks as well. Use a repellant with DEET, and follow label instructions for concentrations appropriate for children.
  • Avoid being outdoors during peak mosquito hours, particularly once West Nile Virus has been detected in the mosquito population.
  • Remove containers around your home (tires, kid pools, pots, tarps) that could allow mosquitoes to breed.
  • Check your body for ticks after being outdoors and remove them immediately to avoid disease transmission.

Shoo the flu! Seasonal influenza vaccine will be offered this fall during the school day to students and employees. The vaccine will be available to all students in Kindergarten through grade 12, by parental consent only. Consent and screening forms will be posted at www.newtonma.gov/flu by early September, in preparation for the fall clinics.

The flu clinic date for Lincoln Eliot Elementary School will be October 30, 2019. Forms (available in Sept.) will be due to the school nurse two school days prior. This schedule is confirmed unless the flu vaccine supply is delayed, in which case the school nurse will notify families of an alternative date once the vaccine arrives.

Have a happy and healthy summer!

June PTO Meeting Recap

Thank you to everyone who came out to our PTO meeting on Tuesday, June 4th!  We had a great year for community-building and fundraising, exceeding our $32,000 goal, so in the end we were able to purchase LCD projectors for all the classrooms who still need them.  We also added 246 books to the library, welcomed 19 Creative Arts and Sciences programs for the students, and had several great community events throughout the year.

Thank you so much to everyone who donated, volunteered, helped with events, acted as room connectors, came to PTO meetings, and otherwise supported our school – you are all an important part of the PTO and none of this could happen without you!

If you missed the meeting or would like to find out more, please click on the links below to review the minutes and the slideshow presentation, or email secretary@lepto.org with any questions!

Have a wonderful summer!  See you next year!

Dear families,

Our last full week of school is upon us!  We’re looking forward to another wonderful Celebration Day on Tuesday morning — or Wednesday if Tuesday is rained out!  Volunteers will be hearing from Mr. Rota soon, and parents are welcome to join us on the field to cheer and help out.  Also, don’t forget that Thursday is Walk and Roll to School Day!

Congratulations to all our musicians who worked so hard this year and gave us such great performances last week — the third graders with their recorder recital on Tuesday morning, and the fourth and fifth graders at their concerts on Thursday.  We hope everyone enjoyed the wonderful artwork on display at LE Arts Night as well.  A big thank-you to our art and music teachers, Ms. Sutherland and Ms. Schoepflin, for everything they do!

Library Gift Book Program

It’s nearly the end of the year, which means it’s time for Lincoln-Eliot’s Library Gift Book Program!  This is a great way to thank your child’s teacher and support the library at the same time.  If you are interested in donating, please fill out this form: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Da-BhfigHC9ztJpDk5TV-jrnhCexbdzs  and return it with cash or a check in your child’s blue folder, or contact a PTO board member for guidance (secretary@lepto.org).

For each $20.00 (hardcover) or $8.00 (paperback) donation, a bookplate will be affixed to the front of the book with the names of your child and his/her teacher.

Last year we raised $526 and purchased all these beautiful books for the library:

The Library Gift Book Program, sponsored by the Lincoln-Eliot PTO, is a great way to:

  • Show your appreciation for a teacher in a way that honors his/her profession
  • Create an enduring gift that will be enjoyed by children for years and years
  • Replenish our wonderful book collection

Thank you for supporting our library!

Walk And Roll to School Day this Thursday – Volunteers Needed!

Our final Walk and Roll to School Day of the year is Thursday, June 13 and we need some volunteers to help make it a success!  We will have volunteers stationed at each crosswalk, entrance and bus drop-off giving children pencils, stickers, and safe walking/rolling to school information.  Wendy Lennon is the Safe Routes to School volunteer who is coordinating the morning, and she’s looking for 3 to 5 people to help out from 8am to 8:30 (drop off).  If you are interested, please e-mail her at wendylennon@comcast.net.

4th Grade Instrumental Program Informational Meeting: Monday 6/10

If your musician is interested in the Lincoln-Eliot Instrumental Program that begins in 4th Grade, please join us for an informational meeting on Monday, June 10, 2019 at 7pm in the L-E Music Room.  Program information, registration information, and financial assistance for those who qualify will be discussed.  If you cannot attend but would like to find out more, please email Ms. Schoepflin at schoepflinl@newton.k12.ma.us.
