Congratulations to Lucas Branco in Ms. Malavase’s 1st Grade Class, the winner of the Lego bricks tower! The total number of bricks in the tower of storage containers was 2,064 and Lucas’ guess was 2,000, which is the closest number without exceeding the actual number of bricks. Great Job!!

Cookies Needed for Thursday Evening Book Fair Event!
Cookies Needed for Thursday Evening!
Dear L-E Community,
We are so excited to get the book fair up and running Monday morning. Thank you to those who have already signed-up to volunteer your time at the fair. We are still in search of volunteers to make this event as successful as can be. If you find that you can spare time this week to: work with students coming to the library to browse the wonderful array of books and make their wish lists, to help with before or after school sales, or to work a shift during the Books and Cookies Pajama Party this Thursday, please sign-up!
We are also looking for bakers (or buyers) to make or purchase cookies for our evening event this Thursday. Please sign up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0f49afac22a7fb6-cookies
This way, we will be guaranteed that students and families will have an assortment of delicious cookies to choose from (for free!) on Thursday.
Please have your child deliver the cookies to the main office Wednesday or Thursday or bring them to the event Thursday evening.
We look forward to seeing you at the fair!

We urgently need volunteers this week for the Book Fair! This includes before school, after school, during library class times, and especially for our Get Cozy with Books and Cookies evening event next Thursday, Dec. 14, between 5-8pm. We would love for this to be a fun pajama party celebrating books with our kids, and we really need help to make it wonderful! Please check the sign-up sheet to volunteer — or if you’re having trouble with the website, or would rather volunteer for a different amount of time, please email Tui at tui.sutherland@gmail.com. 🙂
And we hope to see you at the Book Fair next week! As a reminder, the fair will be open in the library every day before school (from 7:30-8:30am) and every day after school, in addition to Thursday night.
Thank you so much!

Principal Update 11.20.17
Dear Families,
Don’t forget: Wednesday, November 22nd is an early release day with a 12:00 dismissal time. Also, there is no school on Thursday, November 23rd and Friday, Friday, November 24th due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Wishing you a happy and healthy start to the holiday season.
A few reminders from previous weeks:
- Vote for Lincoln Eliot:
This year, Watertown Savings Bank has set aside $75,000 to distribute to non-profits through the Customer Choice Awards. The program provides customers with the opportunity to influence how the bank distributes funds in the community. Last year, our community voted, and Lincoln-Eliot was awarded $2,099! If you have any type of account with Watertown Savings Bank, you can cast a vote! Every customer may vote once. Voting is open until December 31, 2017. Please go to Customer Choice to vote online, or visit a branch to cast your ballot for Lincoln Eliot!
- Arrival and Dismissal:
- Arrival and dismissal time has become a bit chaotic and dangerous at times. As a result, I am asking you to please adhere to the following to ensure the safety of all scholars:
- Students should only be let out of the car on the curbside of the street never into the street.
- The blue zone (on both Pearl Street and Jackson Road) is a no parking zone; it should be used for quick drop off and pick up only
- If coming from the Capital Street area, please cross students at the Pearl/Jackson light in the designated crosswalk; not in front of cars on Jackson Street.
- The fire lane in the staff parking lot is a no parking zone
- Dogs:
Dogs are not allowed on school property but we have come up with a plan that should work for all. If you choose to walk your dog to school at arrival and dismissal times, you and your dog must wait by the Flagpole on the corner of Pearl St and Jackson Rd. Make sure to inform your child’s teacher that you give permission for your child to walk to the Flagpole area on his/her own. It is imperative that you talk with your child to create a plan in case you are late. Make sure to communicate that plan to your child’s teacher.
- In an effort to ensure student safety, we are asking for parents and teachers to remind students NOT to climb through the bushes in the front of the school when entering or exiting the building. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
- Help Lincoln Eliot earn funds to promote each student’s educational and intellectual growth…register with A+ School Rewards with Stop and Shop at https://stopandshop.com/school-rewards/ Our school ID code is 05887.
- Please notify the office if you have a change of address or phone number. It is important to have up to date contact information in the case of an emergency.

Volunteers Needed for Online Auction
Volunteers needed!!!
The L-E PTO is planning to hold an online auction this year that will span for approximately one week in February (8th – 16th). We need help now with soliciting from vendors, friends and family for donations.
Funds raised will benefit our Playground Renovation plans. Due to all the safety concerns surrounding the playground equipment our children play on every day, we are attempting to renew them and add certain items to make it more accessible for the younger children (e.g., lower basketball hoops). Our calculated expense to do minimal improvements is $9K. However, if we can raise more funds, we will certainly invest more as it is more than just a playground the students play in, but also a community park for the children in the Newton area.
If anyone can spare a few hours to assist with this effort, please contact Cindy at cindy_chan@msn.com for more information. Thank you!!!
