Fall Festival: All This Week!

Happy fall, everyone!  While we can’t all be together for our usual fall festival — dancing and showing off our costumes and crossing our fingers for the teacher treat raffles — we still want to celebrate the season and our community in a safe, socially distanced way, and we hope you can join us!

* Mini Pumpkin Display!

We hope everyone had a chance to pick up a mini pumpkin from 93 Gardner St.; if you didn’t, or if you would like to keep decorating, we have several left, so please stop by and pick them up from the porch anytime.  (Here’s our Pinterest page of ideas again, if you need it!)

Once your pumpkins are decorated, we’d love for you to add them to our outdoor display so everyone can come by to admire them.  Tables will be set up in the overhang area from Monday (10/26) at 12:30pm through Friday (10/30) at 3pm.  Drop off your pumpkin whenever you can and pick them up again at the end of the week!

We would also love for you to share your pumpkins, costumes, and anything else that’s making you happy this fall on our fall festival Flipgrid:  https://flipgrid.com/605f8702 — just sign in with your NPS student email and upload a short (no more than 30 seconds) video to share with everyone!

* Fall Festival Activity Bags!

When you stop by to see the pumpkins, you’re invited to pick up an activity bag for each of your kids — they’ll be set out in the overhang all week.  The bags each contain a fall-themed bookmark craft kit, a piece of candy, and a printout of our scavenger hunt for your family to do together!

* Lincoln-Eliot Fall Scavenger Hunt!

Go for an adventure around the outside of our school and see how many of these questions you can answer!  Then, if you’d like to, come back here and fill out this Google form with your guesses:

https://forms.gle/KiGAEYhQh8MLYFSv9

Everyone who fills out the form by Monday, November 2, will be entered in a raffle to win a $50 gift card from a local bookstore — and don’t worry, you don’t have to get all the questions right in order to win!  (If you can’t make it to the school to do the hunt, you can still enter the raffle — just fill out the form with your email address and feel free to guess some of the answers if you’d like to!)

As a reminder, while you’re on school grounds, please observe all the current rules: wear a mask at all times, stay six feet apart from others, and wash your hands / use hand sanitizer in between touching anything.

We hope this gives everyone a fun, safe way to connect with the school and each other — we really miss seeing you all!  Thank you to the volunteers who helped make this happen!  Have a wonderful week, everyone!

PTO Events Postponed

As our email said earlier this week, we are postponing all PTO events, including the Yogurt Beach Fundraiser and our planning for Family Science Night.  As a PTO we have also decided to postpone the Online Auction for now.  We look forward to rescheduling it once school is back in session.  Thank you everyone for your support!

Thank You for a Great Game Night!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out for our Family Game Night, and especially to the wonderful volunteers who made the evening such a fun success!  If you weren’t able to join us, it’s still possible to order games one of two ways:

  1. Print and fill out this order form and send it in with cash or a check (made out to the Lincoln-Eliot PTO) in your child’s blue folder by Thursday, March 12th.
  2. Or email secretary@lepto.org with a note about which games you want by Friday, March 13th.

You can view all of Gamewright’s games by clicking here.  Remember that if you order them through us, 50% of the proceeds go to our school!  Thank you again for all your support!

February PTO Highlights

February Highlights – Thank You Parents!

February was an incredibly generous month from LE parents and our community:

  • Feb 7th – Movie Night!  What a great showing of families and many new faces for volunteers. You donated $844 through ticket and food sales.  Thank you!
  • Feb 14th – Valentine’s Day Flower Sale!  Thank you, Natalie, for putting the bouquets together and the many volunteers who helped sell/distribute them!  The team raised $570.
  • Feb 27th – Amazon Smiles delivers $84!  Every dollar counts and if you are shopping on Amazon it is super easy to make use of their match.  Email president@lepto.org if you need assistance.
  • Feb 28th – Our PTO co-president, Lauren McMinn, has been working so hard on getting items for our auction, which starts March 23.  Along the way she captured a $1500 donation from The Village Bank!
  • Feb 29th – In January we received $1265 in parent donations to the Annual Fund. In February we received $59 for a total of $6135 in Parent Donations.

The Creative Arts and Sciences program continues to bring outstanding content to our children:

  • Feb 6th – Potato Hill Poetry, Grades 2, 4, 5

60% Towards our Fundraising Goal!

  • The LE PTO spends $36,000/year for our 364 children, about $100 per child.
  • Donate through our website at LEPTO.ORG/DONATE or contact treasurer@lepto.org for more information.

Game Night THIS FRIDAY, March 6th! — Volunteers Needed!

Join us for a fun family night of board games and pizza this Friday, March 6th, from 6-8pm as we host our second Lincoln-Eliot Family Game Night!

Admission is $10 per family at the door — but if you sign up to volunteer for half an hour, your family gets in free!  We’d really love your help to set up, clean up, or man the pizza table or the game sales — please click here to volunteer!  (Donations of water, seltzer, and baked goods also needed!)

Pizza, drinks, and baked goods will be for sale in the cafeteria.  All the games will also be for sale at the event, with 50% of the proceeds going to support our school!

Last Call for Auction Donations!

The deadline for donating to our LE PTO online auction has been extended to Monday, February 17th!  Which means there’s still a chance to send in your delivery donations or hosting donations — here are some of the great offerings we’ve received so far:

– private yoga lessons
– a commissioned piece of artwork
– hand-decorated cupcakes
– belly dancing class
– movie outing at West Newton Cinema
– Israeli brunch delivered to the winner
– quilted baby blanket
– German language lessons
– hand-painted silk scarves
– pizza and movie playdate
– 3-layer carrot cake
– homemade ice cream delivery
– homemade tiramisu

As a reminder, possible delivery donation ideas could be:
• Gifting a meal – this could be a homemade dish you are famous for, or a traditional meal that you love to make
• Cake delivery – make your best cake and give to the highest bidder
• Wine delivery – gift your favorite bottles of wine to the winner
• Handmade items – if you have a hobby like knitting or pottery, let us auction off one of your pieces!
• Special talents – Rubik’s cube lessons, flower arranging, tax help, language lessons, dog-walking.  You name it!

And for hosting donations, you decide the number of guests, and bidders purchase a spot at your gathering.  Please note, these spots are only open to the children in your child’s class or grade — you may specify.  You are donating your time by organizing and providing the materials and space for the event.

Feel free to be creative, but some ideas include:
• Hosting a playdate for 3-5 classmates with a theme – crafts, cooking, science, outdoors, etc.
• Host a movie or video game night at your house with popcorn
• Hosting a parents’ or moms’ night out with drinks and appetizers at your house

Please email your Room Connector or president@lepto.org with the details of your donation.  (Please be as descriptive as possible in any food-based donations to keep in mind the buyers who may have allergy and dietary restrictions.)  Thank you so much for your help and support for our school!  Our online auction will begin on March 23rd — keep an eye out for the link in this newsletter and on www.lepto.org!

Save the Date: Game Night March 6th!

Mark your calendars for our upcoming Lincoln-Eliot Game Night on Friday, March 6th, from 6-8pm!  We will be partnering with Newton-based game company Gamewright to provide a wide selection of games to play (preview all their games here).

Incoming kindergarten families welcome — come introduce your child to their new school and make some new friends!

Please contact secretary@lepto.org if you’re interested in helping with the event.  We hope to see you there!

Thank You for an Awesome Movie Night!

Thank you to everyone who came out for Movie Night on Friday!  It was a really fun night, and we raised over $800 for the school, which will go toward our funding for Creative Arts and Sciences programs, library books, technology, and more.  Special thanks to everyone who volunteered to make the night a success, and to Heather and Kwok Yu for organizing everything!

Reminder: Online Auction Donations Still Needed

Thank you to everyone who’s responded about our upcoming online auction — don’t forget that the deadline to submit your donation idea is February 14th!

Our online auction will begin on March 23rd and this year, we are hoping that each classroom can donate some “delivery donations” as well as some “hosting donations.”

Delivery donation ideas could be:
• Gifting a meal – this could be a homemade dish you are famous for, or a traditional meal that you love to make
• Cake delivery – make your best cake and give to the highest bidder
• Wine delivery – gift your favorite bottles of wine to the winner
• Handmade items – if you have a hobby like knitting or pottery, let us auction off one of your pieces!
• Special talents – Rubik’s cube lessons, flower arranging, tax help, language lessons, dog-walking.  You name it!

Hosting donations work a little differently.  You decide the number of guests, and bidders purchase a spot at your gathering.  Please note, these spots are only open to the children in your child’s class or grade — you may specify.  You are donating your time by organizing and providing the materials and space for the event.

Feel free to be creative, but some ideas include:

Please email your Room Connector or president@lepto.org with the details of your donation.  (Please be as descriptive as possible in any food-based donations to keep in mind the buyers who may have allergy and dietary restrictions.)  The deadline to submit is February 14th.  We will follow up with you after that date to confirm the details as we get closer to the auction.

Thank you for your consideration — we appreciate your help in raising money for the school and bringing our community closer together at the same time!

Online Auction Coming Up — Donations Needed!

Dear families,

Every year, Lincoln-Eliot holds an online silent auction fundraiser for two weeks in the spring.  The Online Auction Committee asks local businesses to donate goods and services to auction off.  Our online auction will begin on March 23rd.

This year, we would like to have community donations as well. We are hoping that each classroom can donate some “delivery donations” as well as some “hosting donations.”

• Hosting a playdate for 3-5 classmates with a theme – crafts, cooking, science, outdoors, etc.
• Host a movie or video game night at your house with popcorn
• Hosting a parents’ or moms’ night out with drinks and appetizers at your house

Thank you for your consideration.  Not only are we raising money for the school, but this is a great way for us all to get to know each other better!

Best,
Online Auction Committee
