The Lincoln-Eliot Book Fair Is Here!

It’s Book Fair Week at Lincoln-Eliot, which means we’ll be celebrating books and reading all week long!

Everyone is welcome to stop by to shop the book fair Monday-Thursday before and after school, starting at 8am and going until 4pm (2:30pm on Tuesday).

Tuesday morning, all parents and guardians are invited to come to the library for a Brrreakfast with Books coffee morning between 8-10am.  This is your chance to browse the fair without your children (and maybe buy some holiday presents!).

Wednesday is Book Character Day, where kids (and our amazing teachers) can come to school in costume as a favorite book character!  Click here for some ideas, or stop by the library on Tuesday to pick up a costume item to wear on Wednesday.  We’ll also have costume crafts in the library after school on Tuesday, for anyone who’d like to come cut out and color their own unicorn horns, Wimpy Kid faces, and more!

And Thursday is our Books and Cookies Pajama Party!  Join us from 5-8pm — in pajamas, if you’d like to! — for free cocoa and cookies, fun crafts, book scavenger hunts, and browsing the fair!  We’ll have wish lists from the teachers for their classroom libraries, and there will be pizza for sale in the cafeteria, plus a donation bin for Cradles to Crayons.  We hope to see you there!

But if you can’t make it to the fair this year, there’s also an online book fair shopping option, which you can get to through our Book Fair Homepage.  There you’ll find an extended selection of over 6,000 books and free shipping on (books-only) orders over $25, and purchases made through the Lincoln-Eliot page between Dec. 4-17 earn 25% in rewards for the school.  Plus, this year, orders ship directly to your home!  (So please feel free to share the site with faraway friends and family!)

Thank you for celebrating books with us and supporting our school at the same time!

See you at the fair!

Book Fair Volunteers & Donations

Thank you to those of you who’ve reached out to volunteer for the Book Fair next week!  Please click here if you’d like to join us — we especially need volunteers for the setup on Friday morning (Dec. 6th) and the evening event Thursday night (Dec. 12th).

This year we also have an Amazon wish list for items that would help us make the fair (and especially Book Character Day) a success — if you don’t have time to volunteer, this is another way to support the fair that we’d be very grateful for!

Thank you so much!  We appreciate your help!

Book Character Day: Wednesday, Dec. 11th!

Get ready for Book Character Day, coming up on Wednesday, Dec. 11th, in the middle of our book fair week!  Come to school dressed as a book character (and stop by the library to take a picture in our Arctic Adventure wonderland!).  Need ideas?  Check out our Character Costume Ideas & Suggestions — or stop by the library anytime the day before to pick up a costume!  We’ll also have a costume craft workshop in the library on Tuesday, Dec. 10th, after school — anyone is welcome to come by between 12:30-2:30pm to join us in making mouse ears, unicorn horns, and other fun costume elements.  It was amazing to see everyone in costume last year — we’re so excited to do it again!

Books & Cookies Pajama Party: Dec. 12th!

Please join us (in pajamas!) on Thursday, December 12th from 5-8pm for our Books & Cookies Pajama Party to celebrate the joy of reading at our book fair!  As always, there will be pizza for sale in the cafeteria, plus free cookies and cocoa for everyone.  We’ll have crafts and activities, book scavenger hunts, teacher wish lists, and of course, lots of wonderful books for sale just in time for the holidays!

This is also a great time to clear out toys and books and clothes before new ones come in, so we’re so happy this year to be hosting a Cradles to Crayons donation bin at the school.  You can bring donations to the book fair all week long or to the Thursday evening event, which will be the last chance to donate before it’s all picked up on Friday, Dec. 13th!

Lincoln-Eliot Book Fair: December 9-12!

We are looking forward to the Lincoln-Eliot Book Fair, which will be in our library and celebrating reading from December 9th – 12th this year!

The fair will be open for shopping before and after school each day, and we will be having our Books and Cookies Pajama Party on Thursday, December 12th from 5-8pm — please join us for free cookies and cocoa in the cafeteria and have fun shopping the fair!

This year our Book Character Day will be Wednesday, December 11th, when everyone is invited to come to school in costume as a character from a book!  Who will you be?  Start brainstorming your costume now…and if you need any ideas, check out our Costume Ideas & Suggestions!

We would love your help anytime during the fair; please click here to volunteer!  Or if you can’t volunteer, but would like to help in another way, we also have an Amazon Wish List for book fair donations (including items for our costume basket).  And stay tuned for more information about our online fair (running Dec. 4 – 17) (this year they’ll ship straight to your house!) and teacher wish lists for the classroom libraries.

Happy reading!  See you at the fair!

Newton CAS AuthorFest!

This November, Newton Public Schools’ Creative Arts & Sciences program is celebrating the importance of books in our children’s lives with an AuthorFest, including visits from authors and illustrators to schools across the district to talk about the writing and illustrating process.

Lincoln-Eliot is excited to welcome author Marika McCoola this coming Friday, November 8th, to speak to our 4th and 5th graders!

And we are also looking forward to welcoming author/illustrator Jef Czekaj on Tuesday, November 19th, for our K-3 students!

Books by Jef and Marika can be ordered through Newtonville Books by clicking the book covers in this online form or by calling (617) 244-6619 — if you order or call by Monday, November 4th, and let them know your student is at Lincoln-Eliot, we will try to get them signed by the author and delivered to the school in time for the events.  (Or if you pick them up at the bookstore and send them in with your students on the day of the visit, we will ask the authors if they can sign the books then!)

And this coming Wednesday, November 6th, everyone is invited to join all 25+ authors and illustrators at the CAS Authorfest Book Sale and Signing Event, held at the Zervas Elementary School Library from 3:15 – 5:30pmClick here for a list of participating authors and their books!

Newtonville Books will be at the event with books for sale, but no purchase is necessary to attend.

It is the intention of Newton Public Schools that no student is denied participation in school-sponsored activities due to inability to pay.  A limited number of scholarships have been set aside to assist families with book purchases; please contact Stacey Moriarty at
moriartys@newton.k12.ma.us for financial assistance with the book sale.

For more details, see the AuthorFest flyer or visit CAS on Facebook.

*CAS AuthorFest is made possible by a grant from the Newton Schools Foundation, a contribution from The Village Bank in Auburndale, and your generous contributions to our PTO.  20% of proceeds from the book sale will go to Creative Arts and Sciences.

Thank You for a Great Fall Festival!

A big thank you to everyone who organized, donated, and volunteered to make the Fall Festival so great!  We raised over $2,000 for the school and had a wonderful time celebrating with all of you.  Special thank you to the Cedrone family for donating the face painter; to Principal Morrissey and the staff for their support and help with ticket sales; and to all the teachers for donating to the amazing Teacher Treat raffle!

Fall Festival Next Saturday! — Volunteers Still Needed

Lincoln-Eliot’s Fall Festival is coming up next Saturday, October 26th, from 4-6pm!  We hope everyone can join us for a fun celebration with food, dancing, games, crafts, and the popular teacher treat raffles!

We still urgently need a few more parent volunteers to help staff the games and crafts, as well as to staff the ticket sales and food sales tables.  Please help us make this a wonderful event by signing up for a slot HERE or by reaching out to president@lepto.org if you have any trouble with the signup form.  We really appreciate your help!

Admission is $5 per person at the door and includes one raffle ticket for the awesome Teacher Treats, which will be raffled off toward the end of the festival.  Additional Teacher Treats raffle tickets can be purchased at the event to increase your odds of winning!  🙂

You can also pre-order a whole pizza by filling out the form that was sent home in your child’s blue folder or completing this online form.

All proceeds from this event support Lincoln-Eliot!

Thank you,
The Fall Festival Committee
