Walk to School Coordinator Needed

Lincoln-Eliot is part of a citywide effort to reduce traffic around our schools.  We are looking for a parent volunteer who could help support the Walk to School program.  Responsibilities include attending Friday morning meetings in person or by phone (9:30am) and coordinating three Walk to School days throughout the year.  There is an urgent need for someone to help support the first event which will likely occur October 24 or 29th.  If you would like to help, please email president@lepto.org.

Be a Library Volunteer!

Looking for a way to help out at school that’s fun, easy, flexible, and a great opportunity to see your children interact with their classmates?  Try being a library volunteer!

Hundreds of books circulate in and out of the school library every week, and our two wonderful librarians could really use your help to check them in and reshelve them.  The more parent volunteers take over this task, the more time the librarians can spend on class planning and helping students find the perfect books for them.  Plus, volunteering in the library shows the kids how much you value reading and books!

You are welcome to come in during your child’s library class — you can find the schedule and volunteer policies here — or at other times during the school day.  Training only takes about 15 minutes and can be done whenever you’re available.  Just reach out to Tui at secretary@lepto.org or Ms. Packard at packards@newton.k12.ma.us to schedule a time!  (Please note that you do need a CORI/SORI form on file with the school, as you do for chaperoning field trips — contact the main office for more information.)

Thank you for your help — the library and students appreciate it!  🙂

Last Call for Room Connectors

We are so close to having a Room Connector for every classroom — thank you so much to those of you who have volunteered!  You’ll be hearing from our Room Connector Coordinator soon!

There are only three classrooms left which don’t have room connector volunteers — if you’d be willing to fill the role for Ms. Levin’s class, Ms. Hunter’s class, or Ms. Foster’s class, please email Emily Núñez at nunezemily77@gmail.com.  It’s a low-commitment, easy way to help your classroom teacher feel appreciated and supported.  The main task is organizing two classroom gifts (one at the holidays, one at the end of the year), and our coordinator will provide guidance anytime you need it!

Again, here are the classrooms that still need volunteers:

4 Levin
5 Hunter
5 Foster

And here are the classrooms who have one parent signed up, but could happily use a second room connector if you’re interested!:

K Kremer
1 Malavase
1 Gayle
1 Ward
2 McDonald
3 Gueye
3 Penczar
4 Monopoli
5 DeNoble/Evans

Please reach out to Emily if you have any questions, and thanks so much for supporting our teachers!

Back to School Picnic Thursday! – Volunteers Needed

We hope everyone can join us on the playground this Thursday, September 12th from 5:30-7pm for our annual Back to School Picnic!  (Rain date Friday Sept. 13th)  Pizza, desserts, and water will be for sale, with all proceeds going to support our school.  Please sign up to volunteer if you can (we especially still need help at the pizza table!) — time slots are short so you can also enjoy the picnic!

The volunteer signup can be reached by going to our new online directory system, Membership Toolkit (and creating your new account if you haven’t already).  Please email secretary@lepto.org if you have any trouble, or if you’d like to help but can’t get to the signup.

Thanks very much — see you on the playground on Thursday!  🙂

Sign Up to Be a Room Connector!

Looking for a fun and easy way to get involved in the Lincoln-Eliot Community?  Become a Room Connector!

What a Room Connector does:
● gather a contact list for families in your room and encourage people to sign up for the school directory
● collect voluntary classroom funds for a holiday class gift and end of year gift for the teachers
● be the point person if your teacher needs something — communication, a special project, etc.
● share information from the PTO (a ready-to-go email or flyer from the Room Connector Coordinator) with your class contact list

If you would like to be a Room Connector, please email our Room Connector Coordinator, Emily Núñez, at nunezemily77@gmail.com.  We hope to have two Room Connectors per classroom, and it is first come, first served, so don’t wait to email!

Please be sure to include:
1. Your full name
2. Your child’s full name
3. Child’s grade level
4. Child’s classroom teacher

Thanks very much!  Your child and his/her teacher will be so appreciative!

Facilitated Inclusive Play at Recess – Volunteers Needed

This year, Lincoln-Eliot will be offering facilitated inclusive play during recess, and we are looking for interested volunteers to be facilitators of play at the three lunch recesses.  This is inclusive modeling with emphasis on providing a space in the playground where all kids can spend time together interacting with or playing alongside peers.

Adults are there to guide and encourage but not necessarily do the playing — although you can and it’s fun!  We use simple supplies like hula hoops, tennis balls, and chalk which are all donated and supplied.

Volunteers can be anyone with an active CORI on file with the office.  “On the job training” provided!  You can volunteer for 20 minutes or 2 hours, once a day or once a month; whatever schedule works for you.  Currently the three recesses happen between 12:15 and 2:20pm (weather permitting).  Our future goal is to have indoor facilitated recess but currently we are outside only.

Please email secretary@lepto.org if you’re interested in volunteering, or reach out to Margaret and PJ Smith for more details!

Back to School Picnic: September 12th!

Mark your calendars for our annual Back to School Picnic on Thursday, September 12th from 5:30-7pm!  (Rain date Friday, Sept. 13th)  Join us on the playground for dinner and fun; pizza and desserts will be for sale.

We need volunteers to make the picnic a success!  Time slots are short (half an hour) to make sure you can also enjoy the picnic.  Please sign in to our new Membership Toolkit directory and sign up to volunteer (or email secretary@lepto.org if you’d like to help but can’t get to the signup).

We hope to see you there!  🙂

Walk And Roll to School Day this Thursday – Volunteers Needed!

Our final Walk and Roll to School Day of the year is Thursday, June 13 and we need some volunteers to help make it a success!  We will have volunteers stationed at each crosswalk, entrance and bus drop-off giving children pencils, stickers, and safe walking/rolling to school information.  Wendy Lennon is the Safe Routes to School volunteer who is coordinating the morning, and she’s looking for 3 to 5 people to help out from 8am to 8:30 (drop off).  If you are interested, please e-mail her at wendylennon@comcast.net.

Last Chance to Sign Up for the Teacher Appreciation Lunch

Thank you so much to everyone who’s volunteered to help with our Teacher Appreciation Lunch this Tuesday, May 14th, at 12:30pm!  We still need help particularly during the lunch itself (12:30-2:30pm) — you can bring your kids (and they’re welcome to help, too!).  Sign up by clicking here:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e44aba72ea2fd0-lincolneliot1

Please email Elizabeth at elizabeth@stepcare.net with any questions!  🙂
