Have Special Ed Questions? Join us for “Role of the SEPAC ” Workshop

Role of the SEPAC – a MassPAC/FCSN workshop

Parents of children receiving special education services (IEP, 504 plan) are welcome to join us to learn more about the role of the Special Education Parent Advisory Council here in Newton.

WHEN: Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 7:30 PM – 9 PM

WHERE: Newton Public Schools Education Center, 100 Walnut Street, Room 21

DESCRIPTION: A local Special Education Parent Advisory Council or SEPAC is a district-level, parent-driven group that provides input to the local school district on system-level challenges in special education and the safety of students with disabilities. An effective SEPAC has parents in the role of advisors who use families’ experiences, unique perspectives and expertise to influence decisions and help shape programs and policies at the district level. This workshop outlines the purpose and function of a SEPAC as well as an overview of activities and outreach strategies to solicit diverse input.

Presented by Leslie M. Leslie who serves as Project Director for the MassPAC and APPLE projects under the Federation for Children with Special Needs. Since 2011, she has provided technical assistance to both SEPACs and District special education administrators.

1 Ward
3 Penczar
4 Levin
5 Hunter

And here are the classrooms who have one parent signed up, but could use a second room connector:

2 Rooney
2 McDonald
3 Gueye
4 Monopoli

Let us know if you have any questions, and thanks so much for supporting our teachers!

First PTO Meeting of the Year: Tuesday, Sept. 24th!

Please join us for the first PTO meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 24th, at 6:30pm in the library to find out more about what the PTO does, upcoming events for the year, and ways to get involved.  Childcare will be provided in the gym, so please feel free to bring your kids if you need to!

And if you’re interested in signing up for something now, there is a list of open PTO positions on our SignUp page — we’d love for you to check it out and sign up for something!  The most urgent areas where we need help are: the Fall Festival Team, the Creative Arts and Sciences Team, Room Connectors, and Recess Play Facilitators.  Please feel free to contact us at secretary@lepto.org with any questions.  We appreciate all your help!  🙂

New Box Tops App — Download to Support Our School!

Lincoln-Eliot has always done a great job collecting Box Tops to raise money for our school!  This year, the Box Tops for Education program is introducing a new and improved app that will make it even easier.

All you need to do is download the app and scan your food shopping receipts — and you can ask friends and family members to do it, too!  It is quick and simple, and every scan earns more money to help our school.

Make sure to scan all your receipts after shopping for food — sometimes products aren’t labeled with the Box Tops icon, but end up being eligible.  (For example, I bought yogurt at Trader Joe’s, scanned my receipt, and got money, but I never saw the Box Tops logo on the yogurt.)

Look for the Box Tops app in the App Store or Google Play, and read more about the program at BTFE.com.

We will also continue to collect the old Box Tops on packages until they disappear, so don’t throw them out!  We’ll send a reminder about our fall submission sometime in late October, but please feel free to drop off your Box Tops to the main office at any time.

Thank you so much for supporting our school!

Thank You for a Great Back to School Picnic!

We had a wonderful back-to-school picnic on Friday — despite the weather and mosquitoes conspiring to change the date and time on us!  🙂  Thank you so much to all our volunteers and everyone who donated beverages and baked goods, and thank you to everyone who came and celebrated the beginning of the school year together.  We raised over $700 for Lincoln-Eliot, which will go toward the PTO’s funding for library books, technology, and arts and sciences programs for our kids.  Hooray!

We hope to see everyone at Curriculum Night this Thursday — and then at our Fall Festival in October!  🙂  Find out more and/or sign up for our Fall Festival Team by coming to the PTO meeting on Sept. 24th or by emailing Amanda at amanda.rose.nelsen@gmail.com.

Back to School Picnic Thursday! – Volunteers Needed

We hope everyone can join us on the playground this Thursday, September 12th from 5:30-7pm for our annual Back to School Picnic!  (Rain date Friday Sept. 13th)  Pizza, desserts, and water will be for sale, with all proceeds going to support our school.  Please sign up to volunteer if you can (we especially still need help at the pizza table!) — time slots are short so you can also enjoy the picnic!

The volunteer signup can be reached by going to our new online directory system, Membership Toolkit (and creating your new account if you haven’t already).  Please email secretary@lepto.org if you have any trouble, or if you’d like to help but can’t get to the signup.

Thanks very much — see you on the playground on Thursday!  🙂

Sign Up to Be a Room Connector!

If you would like to be a Room Connector, please email our Room Connector Coordinator, Emily Núñez, at nunezemily77@gmail.com.  We hope to have two Room Connectors per classroom, and it is first come, first served, so don’t wait to email!

Please be sure to include:
1. Your full name
2. Your child’s full name
3. Child’s grade level
4. Child’s classroom teacher

Thanks very much!  Your child and his/her teacher will be so appreciative!
