Newton Serves at Lincoln-Eliot Registration

Join in Lincoln-Eliot’s 9th NewtonSERVES and help spruce up Lincoln-Eliot’s exterior.  We will be cleaning the grounds, raking, spreading mulch, prepping and planting our school garden. Adult workers are needed, as well as kids ready to work with their parents!

We need YOU.  NewtonSERVES is the ONLY time of the year when we can make these improvements. Please register before April 25 to make sure you can sign up for our project “Lincoln Eliot Elementary School”, as well as receive important information and a T-shirt!  Everyone must complete and submit a release form before participating.

REGISTER ONLINE:

Parent Volunteers Needed (Gr. 3, 4 & 5) for Understanding Our Differences

3RD GRADE PARENTS: Volunteers Needed for Understanding Our Differences –Monday, May 14th from 9-11 to help present the Chronic Medical Conditions unit of Understanding Our Differences.

4th GRADE PARENTS: Volunteers Needed for Understanding Our Differences – Tuesday, May 29th from 9-11 to help present the Chronic Medical Conditions unit of Understanding Our Differences

5th GRADE PARENTS: Volunteers Needed for Understanding Our Differences – Wednesday, June 13th from 12:45-2:45 to help present the Autism unit of Understanding Our Differences.

What is Understanding Our Differences? – Understanding Our Differences is a nonprofit organization working in partnership with the Newton Public Schools to provide a unique and creative disability awareness program for elementary school children in grades 3-5.  Presented by volunteers, the program promotes inclusion, understanding and acceptance of people with disabilities and individual differences at our schools and in our community.

What’s Involved? – Parents are asked to watch a short video in advance of the program at home to get up to speed on the topic and then each parent runs a fun, small group exercise (6-8 children) to teach them about the unit. The video will show you an example of how to run the activity and then we will give you instructions for your group. We had many first time volunteers in the fall and it was a great success – the kids really enjoyed having their parents in the classroom and the parents enjoyed as well.

If you’re interested in helping please let me know or if you have any questions feel free to email me – I have volunteered the past three years and have found it to be a great experience – Understanding Our Differences is a wonderful program.

Dear Families,

Our School Council and Leadership Team have been working on updating Lincoln Eliot’s mission statement to reflect our current culture and principles as a school. We have come up with 3 possible mission statements that we feel embody our beliefs as a school community. Please take a moment to complete the brief attached survey and vote for your favorite Mission Statement. Our staff and scholars will be voting for their favorite as well. The result will be shared with our community in the near future. The link is below.

  • We are collecting soda can pull tabs in the LE office to support Shriners Hospital. More details can be found here: http://www.thirstylizards.com/general/cantabprogram.php
  • Parking is challenging at Lincoln Eliot but please do not park in the teacher’s parking lot at pick up time. Due to safety concerns, we need to keep the fire lane clear and teachers and other staff members are sometimes blocked in. Thank you for your cooperation.

  • FORJ (Families Organizing for Racial Justice) is a coalition of school-aged families in Newton coming together to teach our children – and ourselves – how to stand up for racial equality. Each school in the district has a team of parents organizing FORJ and the Lincoln-Eliot team is looking for more parents who are interested in enhancing our diverse community through this race, culture, and identity work.

If you’re interested in learning more about FORJ at Lincoln-Eliot, please contact L-E parent Lanni Isenberg, lanni_harris@yahoo.com

A few reminders from previous weeks:

  • Arrival and Dismissal:
  • Arrival and dismissal time has become a bit chaotic and dangerous at times. As a result, I am asking you to please adhere to the following to ensure the safety of all scholars:
  • Students should only be let out of the car on the curbside of the street never into the street.
  • The blue zone (on both Pearl Street and Jackson Road) is a no parking zone; it should be used for quick drop off and pick up only
  • If coming from the Capital Street area, please cross students at the Pearl/Jackson light in the designated crosswalk; not in front of cars on Jackson Street.
  • The fire lane in the staff parking lot is a no parking zone

  • Dogs:

Dogs are not allowed on school property but we have come up with a plan that should work for all. If you choose to walk your dog to school at arrival and dismissal times, you and your dog must wait by the Flagpole on the corner of Pearl St and Jackson Rd. Make sure to inform your child’s teacher that you give permission for your child to walk to the Flagpole area on his/her own. It is imperative that you talk with your child to create a plan in case you are late. Make sure to communicate that plan to your child’s teacher.

  • In an effort to ensure student safety, we are asking for parents and teachers to remind students NOT to climb through the bushes in the front of the school when entering or exiting the building. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

  • Please notify the office if you have a change of address or phone number. It is important to have up to date contact information in the case of an emergency.

L-E Annual Fund: PLEASE DONATE

If you’ve already donated, thank you! It’s never too late! Our goal is for every family to contribute ANY amount they choose. You may donate online at www.lepto.org/donate or by sending cash or a check to school with this form. ANNUAL FUND DONATION FORM
