The Lincoln-Eliot Book Fair Is Almost Here!

The Lincoln-Eliot Book Fair will be arriving in our library this Friday!  Join us for a weeklong reading celebration from November 30 – December 6th!

Please stop by the fair to browse and shop any day before or after school (open for shopping from 8am-4pm).  Or if you can’t make it to the fair in person, please check out the online fair, where you can find an even wider selection of books and some of our teachers’ wish lists!

And get your pajamas ready for our Books and Cookies Pajama Party on Thursday, December 6th from 5-8pm — where there will be pizza for sale, music, bookish scavenger hunts, teacher wish lists, free cookies and cocoa in the cafeteria, and of course, lots of wonderful books to buy!

And don’t forget that we’re kicking off Book Fair Week with Book Character Day on Monday, December 3rd!  Come to school in costume as a character from a book!  (We’ll have Pigeon masks and Cat in the Hat hats in the library for anyone who wants to use those!)  And then stop by the library in your costume, have your photo taken in our Enchanted Forest, and be entered to win a free book in our Character Raffle!  Who will you be?  Dog Man?  Hermione Granger?  Elephant or Piggie?  Who will the librarian be?  Come by the book fair to find out!

We would still really love help anytime during the fair (especially during the Thursday evening event!); please click here to volunteer!

Happy reading!  See you at the fair — really soon!

Our Online Book Fair is Now Open!

The Lincoln-Eliot Book Fair will be arriving in our library this Friday, but even before it arrives, you can start buying books, checking out teacher wish lists, and browsing in our online fair, which is open now through December 9th!

Orders placed through the online fair are scheduled to arrive at the school before the holiday break, and 50% of each purchase goes to support our school library!

Search for your teacher’s wish list here (and if they don’t have one yet, keep checking back in — or come to the fair to choose from their wish list baskets!).  Books for the classroom library (and the school library!) make wonderful holiday gifts for our teachers and librarians!

And please feel free to share the online fair with any faraway friends and family who might like to send books as presents and support our school at the same time.  🙂

Thank you so much, and happy reading!

A DonorsChoose Project for Our ELL Classroom

One of our ELL teachers, Ms. Kazakoff-Eigen, has a great DonorsChoose project up right now, looking for help to buy an alphabet rug for the ELL classroom: Learn Your Letters . . . Rug!  Please check out the link to learn more and to donate!  Any amount is greatly appreciated!  Our ELL teachers work so hard with so many of our Lincoln-Eliot students, it would be lovely to show our support for them this holiday season by fully funding this project.

As a reminder, DonorsChoose.org is a wonderful organization that allows people to donate directly to classroom projects posted by teachers.  Six of our teachers’ projects have already been fully funded this year, thanks in large part to your generosity and support.

A full list of Lincoln-Eliot DonorsChoose projects can be found here, including cantilever rocker chairs for Mrs. Goode’s 4th grade classroom and a waiting bench for the hall outside the school nurse’s office.  Thank you so much for supporting our teachers!

Principal Update 11.19.18

Dear Families,

Don’t forget: Wednesday, November 21st is an early release day with a 12:00 dismissal time.  Also, there is no school on Thursday, November 22nd, and Friday, November 23rd, due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  Everyone at Lincoln-Eliot wishes you a happy and healthy start to the holiday season.

Check out the Lincoln-Eliot PTO’s new Spirit gear options at: https://lepto-spirit-gear.myshopify.com/, where there are over 90 products for adults, kids, toddlers and pets.  This is a great place to start your holiday shopping while supporting our school.

Also, a reminder that the Book Fair is coming up in two weeks, kicking off with Dress Like a Book Character Day on Monday, December 3rd.  The Book Fair will be in the library from November 30 – December 6, with shopping before and after school and at the Thursday evening pajama party (12/6 from 5-8pm), where we hope everyone will join us for free cookies and cocoa, music, and a celebration of reading.

As you know we had a two-hour delay on Friday due to the weather. Please note when there is a 2-hour delay, the start time is pushed back two hours to 10:20am.  There will be no breakfast or before school program on days we have a delayed start time.  Students should not arrive before 10:20, as staff will not be here to supervise.

If you did not receive a call regarding the delay on Friday, please make sure the office has your most up-to-date working phone number.  Also, if the weather is questionable, keep an eye on the morning news for a delay or cancelation message.

Please mark your calendar:

* Monday, November 19th:  Picture Retake Day
* Wednesday, November 21st:  Early Release Day — 12:00 dismissal
* Thursday, November 22nd & Friday, November 23rd:  Thanksgiving Recess — No School

Volunteers Needed for the Book Fair!

The Lincoln-Eliot Book Fair is coming up in two weeks, and we would really love your help to make this event as successful as possible!  We are especially looking for volunteers:

* during school, to help students browse the fair and make their wish lists (you are welcome to sign up for your child’s library slot!)
* at the evening event, to hand out cookies, make cocoa, and help with the teacher wish lists
* for setting up and breaking down the book fair (early morning, before school starts)
* to bring cookies to the pajama party evening event on Thursday, December 6!

Please click here to see the available slots and sign up!  Everyone who volunteers (including the Bringers of Cookies!) will be entered in a raffle to win a free book of your choice from the book fair (one raffle ticket for each slot you sign up for).  And you’ll be helping our kids celebrate the joy of reading and the excitement of the book fair!

We appreciate your help very much!  Please email secretary@lepto.org with any questions!

Paint Nite Wrap-Up

Thank you to everyone who came out this past Thursday for Paint Nite!  We raised $450 for the programs and resources funded by the PTO, and it was a lot of fun (with a lot of very cute blobby foxes!).  We really appreciate your support and hope everyone had a great time!
