Creative Arts & Sciences: Wingmasters coming Dec. 17th

This Monday, we will be hosting a 5th grade program featuring owls.  This program shows that owls are highly specialized birds of prey, very different from other raptors.  Students will discover how owls use their specialized powers of sight, hearing, and flight to survive and thrive.

Your Annual Fund donations help make programs like this one possible!  Haven’t gotten around to making your donation yet?  Please fill out the donation form and return it along with your check (made payable to “Lincoln-Eliot PTO”) to your child’s teacher.  You may also donate online at www.lepto.org/donate.  Thank you for your continued support of our Creative Arts & Sciences enrichment programming.

Creative Arts & Sciences updates

This past Friday, the Discovery Museum paid our Kindergarten classes a visit for an interactive science workshop on Bubbles. Students experimented with bubbles and described their properties. Fun was had by all!

This week begins a wonderful series with Andy Green from Potato Hill Poetry in grades 2, 4 and 5. Through his very skillful presentation, Mr. Green makes writing poetry accessible. His focus is to create exercises to help students see and hear the joy of language. He will return again in January and February.

These are some of several curriculum-based enrichment programs that our PTO funds.  Thank you for your continued support of the Creative Arts & Sciences Committee!

Our Awesome Teachers as Book Characters!

Thank you so much to everyone for supporting our Book Fair this year!  We had a wonderful week of celebrating books and reading, from an amazing Dress Like a Book Character Day to a really fun Books and Cookies Pajama Party, and we raised even more money for our school than last year (hooray!).  See below for some great photos of our teachers and staff (and Clifford!) in costume!  Thank you again, and happy reading!  🙂

Newton Little League Registration Now Open

Registration for the 2019 Newton Little League Spring Season is now available on the league’s website: www.newtonllbaseball.org.

Newton Little League serves players who reside within or attend private or public schools within the boundaries of Ward, Underwood, Lincoln-Eliot, Horace Mann, Peirce, Cabot, Burr, Franklin, Williams elementary schools, and provides programs for players ages 4 through 12.

Programs for younger players are based on school grade, and teams are put together based on elementary school and friend requests: T-Ball (Pre-K), Rookie (Kindergarten), Farm (grade 1), and Single A (grade 2).

In our programs for older players, teams are put together with more of a focus on competitive balance: AA (grades 3-4), AAA (grades 4-6), and Majors (ages 10-12).

There is also a Challenger division for students with special needs who wish to enjoy the game of baseball.

All players interested in playing in the 2019 AAA division must attend an evaluation session and complete registration prior to the evaluation date. The AAA evaluations will be held on January 19, 2018. This event will also serve as the Majors Division makeup evaluation for players who were unable to attend tryouts in the fall.

Please contact us at info@newtonllbaseball.org with any questions.

Principal Update 12.3.18

Dear Families,

Please note that this Wednesday, December 5th, is an early release day, with dismissal at 12:30pm.

This Monday, December 3rd, is Dress Like a Book Character Day!  We’re looking forward to seeing our scholars in costume to celebrate the start of Book Fair week at the school.  Make sure to remind them to stop by the library for a photo and to enter the raffle for a chance to win a free book of their choice from the fair.

We also hope everyone can join us at the Books and Cookies Pajama Party this Thursday, December 6th, from 5-8pm!  And stop by the book fair in the library any time Monday through Thursday to check out our teachers’ wish lists for their classroom libraries, and to shop to support our school.

If you can’t make it to the book fair, there is also an online shopping option where 50% of the proceeds go to our school library: tinyurl.com/LEOnlineBookFair.  And we encourage you to check out the PTO’s online spirit wear store as well, for lots of great options for holiday gifts and showing school spirit.

Please mark your calendar:

* Friday, November 30th – Thursday, December 6th:  Lincoln-Eliot Book Fair
* Monday, December 3rd:  Dress Like a Book Character Day
* Wednesday, December 5th:  Early Release day — 12:30 dismissal
* Thursday, December 6th:  Books and Cookies Pajama Party, 5-8pm
* Monday, December 24th – Tuesday, January 1st:  No School — December Recess

See you on Monday (in character!)!

The Lincoln-Eliot Book Fair Is Here! (Volunteers Still Needed for Thursday!)

We hope you can stop by the library sometime this week to visit the Book Fair!  We’ll be open for browsing and shopping starting at 8am Monday-Thursday, for an hour after school each day, and during our Books and Cookies Pajama Party on Thursday, Dec. 6th from 5-8pm!

Remember that this Monday is Dress Like a Book Character Day!  Come to school in costume as a character from a book!  (Or stop by the library to pick up Mouse ears, a Fancy Nancy boa, a Princess in Black mask, a Cat in the Hat hat, or a Pigeon mask!)

Make sure to come to the library in your costume to have your photo taken in our Enchanted Forest, and you’ll be entered in a raffle to win a free book of your choice from the book fair!  Who will you be?  (Click here for some ideas and suggestions!)  Who will the librarian be?  Come by the book fair to find out!

And then join us in pajamas on Thursday evening for the Books and Cookies Pajama Party — with music, fun activities, pizza for sale, teacher wish lists, free cocoa and cookies in the cafeteria, and lots and lots of wonderful books!

Thank you so much to everyone who has signed up to volunteer (and to those who came and helped on Friday!).  We could still use a few volunteers to help us set up for the Thursday event, to run the cocoa/cookies table — and to bring cookies!  (Cookies can be dropped off in the main office or the library anytime on Wednesday or Thursday!)  Please click here to sign up!

If you can’t make it to the fair in person, check out the online fair, where you can find an even wider selection of books and several teachers’ wish lists!

Thank you for helping our kids celebrate reading!  See you at the fair!

Books and Spirit Wear: Shop Online THIS WEEK and Support Our School!

Looking for a way to shop for the holidays without leaving your home — and support our school at the same time?  🙂

Check out the online book fair, open until December 9th, for a wide selection of exciting titles!  50% of the proceeds go directly to our school library, and you can also search for wish lists from our librarians (the “school wish list”) and several of our teachers if you’re looking for a holiday gift for the classrooms.  Please share with faraway friends and family, too!  Orders will be delivered to the school before the winter break.

Or you can also visit our online spirit wear store to find a wide variety of options to show your school spirit, from T-shirts and pajama pants to bags and blankets to petwear and coasters!  Find great gifts for the whole family for a limited time only — and make sure to order by December 10th to receive any items you want before Christmas!

Your purchases support the PTO’s funding of programs and resources around the school — and hopefully will make your holiday shopping a little easier!  🙂  Thank you so much!

2018-19 Lincoln-Eliot Annual Fund

This year, the PTO will spend nearly $100 for each student at Lincoln-Eliot.  We can’t do that without your support!  Our goal this year is for every L-E family to contribute to our annual fund in any amount they choose.

The Lincoln-Eliot PTO sponsors art & science programming, technology, library books, and other activities for our school community.  We are fully funded by fundraisers and your annual contribution.  Please fill out the donation form and return it along with your check (made payable to “Lincoln-Eliot PTO”) to your child’s teacher.  You may also donate online at www.lepto.org/donate.

If you have already donated, thank you!  If not, please consider contributing today.  It’s never too late!  If you have a corporate matching program at work, even better!  Contact info@lepto.org with any questions.

Creative Arts & Sciences performance for all grades!

This coming Wednesday, we’re excited to welcome Voci Angelica Trio to our school. They will be performing for all our students thanks to the PTO, Creative Arts & Sciences, and Young Audiences of Massachusetts. Our students will be hearing music from around the world that follows the path of human migration. They’ll get to answer questions about geography, and will have the opportunity to accompany the performers, and even dance.
