Science Fair Project Sign-Up Deadline: March 15th!!

Our Family Science Night is coming up in just three and a half weeks — so make sure you sign up now using this form:  https://goo.gl/forms/iiggCgosqn2S6MaT2

The deadline for submission is this Friday, March 15th!  (Don’t worry if you’re still working out the details — we just need a general idea of your project!)

Students at all levels and group projects are welcome!  Past projects have included investigations/experiments (e.g. How fast do apples rot?, What do dogs remember?), models/demonstrations (e.g. the Solar System, lemon battery), research reports (e.g. Marie Curie, Snails), and collections (e.g. Slime).

Need project ideas? Try here: https://pin.it/bsp6n267fk7iuv

We can’t wait to see everyone at Science Night on Thursday, March 28th, from 5-8pm in the gym!  Incoming kindergarten families are very welcome to join us (and start thinking about ideas for next year!).  🙂

Thank You for an Awesome Game Night!

Thank you so much to everyone who volunteered and came out for Game Night on Friday!  We had a great turnout and lots of fun playing all the Gamewright games, and we raised over $700 for the school!  Thanks to everyone who purchased games for the teacher wish lists, as well; the eight teachers who submitted wish lists will all be getting at least two new games for their classrooms.  We look forward to doing this again next year!  🙂

Lincoln-Eliot Online Auction: March 18-29!

A reminder that our online auction is coming up next week, and we hope everyone will check it out!  We have a lot of exciting items and experiences to be auctioned off; thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far.  You can preview the auction here: https://www.biddingforgood.com/lepto191 to start getting ready to bid!

Donations are still being accepted and would be greatly appreciated.  Every donation makes a difference, and it all goes toward our fundraising goals for new technology and arts programs for our kids.  If you have something to donate, please email Cindy at treasurer@lepto.org.  And watch this space for the auction going live next Monday!

3rd Grade CAS Program: Welcome Susan Tan!

On Monday, March 11th, local author Susan Tan will be visiting our school to talk to the third-grade classes about her wonderful books, Cilla Lee-Jenkins, Future Author Extraordinaire and Cilla-Lee-Jenkins: This Book is a Classic, as well as the forthcoming third book in the series, Cilla Lee-Jenkins: The Epic Story.

We are so excited to welcome Susan, and we hope everyone gets a chance to check out her books!  She is visiting us thanks to the Creative Arts and Sciences Committee, which is funded by your support of the PTO.

Kindergarten CAS Program: Explore the Ocean World!

This past Friday, our Creative Arts and Sciences Committee welcomed Explore the Ocean World to visit our kindergarten classes.  This fascinating, hands-on program introduces kids to the wonders of undersea life with touch tanks and all kinds of sea creatures.  Ask your kindergartners which animals they got to meet!

This program was brought to us thanks to the hard work of our CAS committee, who are making sure each grade level gets to experience three enrichment programs over the course of the year.  This is where the majority of our PTO spending goes, so we really appreciate your support to keep making these visits possible!

If you are interested in joining the Creative Arts and Sciences Committee or helping out with planning and welcoming programs next year, please email secretary@lepto.org for more information.  🙂

Principal Update 3.4.19

Dear families,

As you know, we had a two-hour delay on Thursday due to the weather. Please note when there is a 2-hour delay, the start time is pushed back two hours to 10:20am.  There will be no breakfast or before school program on days we have a delayed start time.  Students should not arrive before 10:20, as staff will not be here to supervise.

Teacher conferences will take place in March. If you have not scheduled a conference time with your child’s teacher, please do so! Note that one of the possible conference days is Thursday, March 21, which will be an early release day with a 12:30 dismissal time.

Join Us Friday, March 8th, for Game Night!

On Friday, March 8th, please join us from 6-8pm at the school for Lincoln-Eliot Game Night — a night of board games, pizza, and fun!  Newton-based game company Gamewright will provide a wide selection of games to play and games for sale.  Please RSVP (and pre-order whole pizzas) here so we have an idea of how many people to expect.  Incoming kindergarten families welcome — come introduce your child to their new school and make some new friends!

Admission $10 per family at the door.  All the Gamewright games will also be available for sale, with 50% of the proceeds going to our school!  Can’t make it to the event?  You can still purchase games by sending in this order form with a cash or check (made out to “Lincoln-Eliot PTO”) in your child’s folder by Wednesday, March 6th.

We would really appreciate your help to make this event a success — please sign up here to volunteer to help with pizza sales, game sales, admission, setup, or being a “game guru”!

Please contact secretary@lepto.org with any questions!  We look forward to seeing you there!

Meet Superintendent Fleishman and School Committee members at Lincoln-Eliot

Please join us for our next PTO meeting on Tuesday, March 12th! Superintendent David Fleishman and School Committee members will be visiting our school and answering questions.

If you are unable to attend but would like to submit a question or comment to info@lepto.org, we can make sure your voice is heard and follow up with their response.

Newton Area Flag Football League – Registration now open!

Register now for the Newton Area Flag Football League! The season runs from April 7 – June 16 at the recently renovated Daly Field on Nonantum Road. Games take less than one hour and are held on Sundays between 12 and 3 pm. All games are coached, professionally refereed, and scored. Registration guarantees each player 8 games, including playoffs. Divisions are available for kids ages 5 – 14.

As an organization, we are dedicated to giving back to the community, and so when players register with the coupon code SCHOOL, we will donate $10 to the school where players are enrolled, and they will receive $10 off their registration.

As Newton parents ourselves and active community members, we believe the NAFFL offers the following:

  • a safe environment and sport
  • respect for rules
  • fun while still being competitive
  • boosts confidence
  • perseverance
  • builds community
  • weekly exercise
  • an understanding of the importance of playing/working together as a team
  • good sportsmanship

More information can be found on our website and on the attached flyer.
