Volunteers and Baked Goods Needed for Election Day!

Election Day is coming up soon, and we’d love your help to run a successful bake sale on the day!  Make voters happy and raise money for the school at the same time!  🙂

Please sign up through MySchoolAnywhere or email secretary@lepto.org to volunteer to staff the bake sale table and/or bring in baked goods or coffee to sell.  We appreciate your help very much!

Fall Festival: Thank You!

It was so great to see our community come together yesterday for our Fall Festival. Thank you so much for your support.

Over 400 tickets were sold, in advance and at the door, and the ticket, food and raffle sales in total generated thousands of dollars for our school. This money is put directly into school technology priorities, our PTO-funded Creative Arts & Sciences enrichment program, additional classroom needs, and much more! Thank you!

Local vendors were so generous with raffle prize donations! We will be thanking each and every donor individually in the coming days, and we’ll be sharing back their names with you, so you may continue to help support their businesses’ success.

Our Lincoln-Eliot Annual Fund participation is also off to a strong start for the year. We will be thanking donors, and also tracking our school’s progress using displays at the Pearl St. and Jackson Rd. entrances, and online, on Facebook and LEPTO.org. Please stay tuned!

An event like yesterday does not come together without the work of many, many hands. The PTO would like to especially thank and acknowledge all of our teachers, for your thoughtful and fun Teacher Treat raffle prize donations. We would also like to thank Jena Rossi, for her partnership with logistics and communications, and our principal, Danielle Morrissey, for her enthusiastic support of our entire event. Teacher Treat raffle winners are being drawn in the school office and will be announced this week!

For their amazing support and partnership with our event space planning, set-up, and clean-up, as well as helping us run a smooth and well-organized festival, we would like to thank Geary and Noelle from Lincoln-Eliot’s custodial department. They took every curve ball and made it a home run.

Many parents, guardians, grandparents, and teachers stepped forward yesterday to be festival volunteers. Whether you sold tickets or food, helped with crafts or clean-up, painted faces or carried supplies, your help was invaluable, and the festival could not have run without each and every one of you!

This year’s Fall Festival Committee was comprised of nine members. This team worked together to plan festival activities, acquire prize donations, set up and decorate for the festival, staff the various parts of the festival, and much more. These parents are:

Committee Co-Chair: Lauren McMinn
Committee Co-Chair: Kristin Bedard
Carolina Bello: prizes, signs, DJ, apple cider and donuts, ice cream, food sales
Andrea Cedrone: prizes, Pumpkin Painting, hot dog cart, tattoos and face painting
Elizabeth DePasquale: signs, decorations
Natalie Hereford: prizes, games, logistics
Sandra Lawry: games, decorations
Amanda Nelsen: prizes, signs, decorations, photo booth, face painting, crafts
Jenny Rosenthal: prizes, signs, decorations, Pumpkin Patch

Also thanks to PTO Treasurer Cindy and PTO Co-Secretary Tui, who each contributed in a variety of important ways to make yesterday happen.

Special thanks to Kristine Cheung from K2 Enrichment Program on Watertown Street in Nonantum, who ran complimentary circuit-based science projects in the cafeteria, and Joey Federico who brought his Italian ice cart and donated 20% of his proceeds back to our school. And shout out to Sean Doyle of Palumbo Kettle Corn and to Pace Hot Dogs, who both braved the cold and wind to provide fun festival foods.

Our DJ was DJ Shaye Diggs. We thought he sounded pretty great!

Thank you all! 2019 is Lincoln-Eliot’s 80th Anniversary. Please continue to keep your Annual Fund donations coming, and please stay tuned to get involved in planning our 80th Anniversary Celebration for the spring. Come see us at our next PTO meeting on Tuesday, November 13th to learn more.

Reading Corner: Leo, A Ghost Story

This week’s book recommendation (in honor of Halloween!) is Leo: A Ghost Story, by Mac Barnett (author of Extra YarnPresident Taft is Stuck in the Bath, and The Terrible Two series), illustrated by Christian Robinson (who also illustrated School’s First Day of SchoolLast Stop on Market Street, and Gaston).

“You would like being friends with Leo. He likes to draw, he makes delicious snacks, and most people can’t even see him. Because Leo is also a ghost.

When a new family moves into his home and Leo’s efforts to welcome them are misunderstood, Leo decides it is time to leave and see the world. That is how he meets Jane, a kid with a tremendous imagination and an open position for a worthy knight. That is how Leo and Jane become friends. And that is when their adventures begin.

This charming tale of friendship comes from two of the best young minds in picture books: the author of the Caldecott Honor–winning Extra Yarn and the illustrator of the Newbery Award–winning Last Stop on Market Street—and it’s perfect for young readers all year long.”

Fall Festival Reminders — Volunteers Still Needed!

Our Fall Festival is coming up next Saturday, October 27 from 3:30-6pm, and we look forward to seeing everyone there!

Volunteers appreciated!  What will make this event great is the support and involvement of our entire community.

Please sign in to MySchoolAnywhere or email president@lepto.org to volunteer.  Greatest areas of need: ticket sales, food sales, help with crafts and other activities in the cafeteria, and cleaning up after the festival.  Volunteer shifts are short (45 minutes or an hour), and volunteering is a fun way to make new friends!

Donate baked goods, cases of bottled water, and/or money towards festival supplies.  Baked goods and water may be brought to the main office on Friday, or to the start of the festival at 3:30 on Saturday.  If brought to the start of the festival, please bring to the outdoor overhang area adjacent to the gym.  Cash/check donations towards festival supplies may be sent to school in blue folders by Friday.  Checks should be made payable to: Lincoln-Eliot PTO Inc.

Thanks for your support making this a fun and safe event and a successful fundraiser for our school.

4th Grade CAS Program: Earth Sciences from the Discovery Museum

On Tuesday, October 16th, the Creative Arts and Sciences Committee brought the Discovery Museum to Lincoln-Eliot’s 4th graders for a presentation on “Earth Sciences.

This program describes the three basic rock types, their origins, characteristics, and the definition of a mineral.  Students choose a rock and try to identify it by its characteristics.  They grow crystals, view phosphorescent rocks, and make sedimentation chambers to experiment with at home.

This is one of several curriculum-based enrichment programs that our PTO funds.  Thank you for your continued support of the Creative Arts & Sciences Committee!

Reminder: Box Tops Due This Week!

Just a reminder to everyone to put all your Box Tops together and bring them in this week!  We’ll be sending in our first batch of Box Tops collected by Friday, October 26.  All money earned goes to support our school!

A couple of tips to help make submitting Box Tops easier:
* Bundle your Box Tops in groups of 10 or 50 using an envelope, Ziploc bag, or rubber band.
* Tape, glue, or staple your Box Tops on a collection sheet (which went home in the blue folders or can also be found at btfe.com/collectionsheets).

Box Tops can be dropped off in the main office anytime or sent in in your child’s blue folder.  A list of participating products can be found at btfe.com/products.

Thanks very much for your help!

Dear Parents,

Wow! We had 121 students and 44 staff members receive a Flu shot on Thursday. What a great turn out. I hope this helps to keep LE healthy this winter. As the weather begins to change there are many seasonal illnesses going around. Please remind students to wash their hands often and dress appropriately for the weather.

A Reflex Math DonorsChoose Project

Hooray for the families who helped fully fund Mrs. Bradley’s DonorsChoose project!  Her little bookworms will be so thrilled.  🙂

As a reminder, DonorsChoose.org is an organization that allows people across the country to donate directly to classroom projects posted by teachers — and a few of our teachers have new projects up this year, which we wanted to share with the community.

This week:  One of our Learning Center teachers, Ms. Kelley, is raising money for a membership in the Reflex Math program, which will allow her students to learn math in a more fun and engaging way.  Please check out A Matter of Fact, We Can Subtract with Reflex Math and support this project if you can!  Any amount is greatly appreciated.  This project has $179 to go, and the sooner it’s funded, the sooner her students can start using the program!  🙂

Also just a reminder that Ms. Goode’s project is in its final week: It’s Time to Stand Up and Learn! needs to be fully funded by Thursday, October 18 for her students to get their standing desks!

Thank you so much for all your support!
