Newton Serves at Lincoln-Eliot Registration

Join in Lincoln-Eliot’s 9th NewtonSERVES and help spruce up Lincoln-Eliot’s exterior.  We will be cleaning the grounds, raking, spreading mulch, prepping and planting our school garden. Adult workers are needed, as well as kids ready to work with their parents!

We need YOU.  NewtonSERVES is the ONLY time of the year when we can make these improvements. Please register before April 25 to make sure you can sign up for our project “Lincoln Eliot Elementary School”, as well as receive important information and a T-shirt!  Everyone must complete and submit a release form before participating.

REGISTER ONLINE:

Parent Volunteers Needed (Gr. 3, 4 & 5) for Understanding Our Differences

3RD GRADE PARENTS: Volunteers Needed for Understanding Our Differences –Monday, May 14th from 9-11 to help present the Chronic Medical Conditions unit of Understanding Our Differences.

4th GRADE PARENTS: Volunteers Needed for Understanding Our Differences – Tuesday, May 29th from 9-11 to help present the Chronic Medical Conditions unit of Understanding Our Differences

5th GRADE PARENTS: Volunteers Needed for Understanding Our Differences – Wednesday, June 13th from 12:45-2:45 to help present the Autism unit of Understanding Our Differences.

What is Understanding Our Differences? – Understanding Our Differences is a nonprofit organization working in partnership with the Newton Public Schools to provide a unique and creative disability awareness program for elementary school children in grades 3-5.  Presented by volunteers, the program promotes inclusion, understanding and acceptance of people with disabilities and individual differences at our schools and in our community.

What’s Involved? – Parents are asked to watch a short video in advance of the program at home to get up to speed on the topic and then each parent runs a fun, small group exercise (6-8 children) to teach them about the unit. The video will show you an example of how to run the activity and then we will give you instructions for your group. We had many first time volunteers in the fall and it was a great success – the kids really enjoyed having their parents in the classroom and the parents enjoyed as well.

If you’re interested in helping please let me know or if you have any questions feel free to email me – I have volunteered the past three years and have found it to be a great experience – Understanding Our Differences is a wonderful program.
